GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE REGIONAL INTERMODAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER
Bob Hope Airport is moving forward with the development of a Regional Intermodal Transportation Center (RITC) to be located along Empire Avenue, across from the Bob Hope Airport Train Station. The RITC will be a three-level structure housing a consolidated rental car facility and rental car customer service building and will include a bus transit station on the ground level. An elevated moving walkway will convey rental car customers and rail and bus passengers between the airport passenger terminal and the RITC, making Bob Hope Airport uniquely convenient and accessible via multiple transportation modes.
In addition to improving transportation options, the RITC is being designed to resist large earthquakes and will have the potential to serve as an emergency response center, when rail and aviation access to the region would play vital roles.
The RITC will also provide an opportunity for the City of Burbank to install a large array of solar panels, helping the City to acquire a new source of green power for its grid.
CURRENT STATUS: On September 20, 2012, the prime contractor McCarthy Building Companies began the pile driving phase of the construction of Burbank Bob Hope Airport's Regional Intermodal Transportation Center (RITC). Eight hundred seventy-five piles will be driven between September and the middle of December 2012 to support the above ground structural elements of the RITC. For more information, see the press release.
On July 6, 2012, the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority hosted a RITC groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the official commencement of RITC construction. For photos of this event, click here.
On May 14, 2012, the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority voted to award contracts totaling $81,179,000 to build the first phase of the RITC. The transportation center is scheduled to open in summer 2014. For more information, see the press release.
