Airport Authority Commission Elects Interim Officers; Welcomes New Member

On January 14, the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority elected interim officers to head the Authority Commission. The election followed the resignation of former Airport Authority President and Pasadena Commissioner Chris Holden, who assumed office in the State Assembly in December, representing the 41st District.

Elected were: Glendale Commissioner Rafi Manoukian, President; Commissioner Susan Georgino of Burbank, Vice President; and Commissioner Steve Madison of Pasadena, Secretary.

The Authority elects officers for one-year terms, commencing in July of each year. The new slate of interim officers will serve out the remainder of the current term through June.

Pasadena Councilmember Jacque Robinson has been appointed by the City of Pasadena to fill the Authority seat vacated by Holden. Robinson attended her first meeting on January 14, 2013.

The other current commissioners are: Don Brown and Bill Wiggins of Burbank; Dave Weaver and Frank Quintero of Glendale; and Terry Tornek of Pasadena.

Airport Passes Annual FAA Inspection with Flying Colors

Burbank Bob Hope Airport passed its annual FAA inspection in December with a finding of no discrepancies from the certification standards contained in Part 139 of the Federal Aviation Regulations. The Part 139 certification inspection included a briefing with airport management; an examination of airport records; and inspections of the runways, rescue and firefighting vehicles, fueling facilities, and nighttime safety operations.

Park in Valet; earn a free car wash! The Airport recently debuted its Valet Parking Loyalty Program. Travelers who sign up for the program will receive a punch card. Punches will be awarded for each day of Valet parking, and ten punches will earn the customer a free car wash! reports on the Airport’s study of land development and improved transit to the Airport. The article highlights the Airport’s involvement in improving multi-modal transit connections, especially in regards to regional rail and bus rapid transit (BRT) options. Amtrak and Metrolink both currently have Ventura Line stops at the Bob Hope Airport Train Station, and the Orange Line BRT connects the West Valley to the North Hollywood Red Line Station, only 3.3 miles from the Airport.

The Authority approved a $970,000 contract in January to acoustically treat 32 homes in the Airport’s Residential Acoustical Treatment Program (RATP). Ten of the homes are in Burbank; one is in North Hollywood; and 21 are in Sun Valley. Since 1997, the RATP has insulated over 2,200 residences in areas near the Airport that meet eligibility requirements for federal grant participation.
